Jarvis Landry surprises Cystic Fibrosis ambassador with tickets - 247Sports

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry joined 'The Jim Rome Show' during Super Bowl media week. Landry was accompanied by Nick Miller, an ambassador of the CF [Cystic Fibrosis] Foundation. It was not an ordinary media appearance for the wide receiver, however. He had an ulterior motive and it would warm the hearts of everyone in the vicinity.

Landry has a special story with his support of cystic fibrosis.

Through a video from NFL Films, Landry detailsed his relationship with his high school sweetheart, Mya Zimmer. Zimmer suffered from Cystic Fibrosis and passed away at the age of 24 years. Landry has since partnered with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and created Jarvis' Jam to raise awareness.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) explains the disease as follows:

"Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time.
In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients."

In his first season with the Browns, Landry recorded 81 receptions for 976 yards and four touchdowns. It was the seventh most receptions that a Browns player has recorded in a single season. It was the most since tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. recorded 82 receptions in 2007. The franchise record of 89 receptions was matched three times (twice by tight end Ozzie Newsome and once by Winslow).

Cleveland acquired him in exchange for fourth and seventh round picks back in March. General Manager John Dorsey signed him to a five year contract extension worth $75.5 million before he ever played a down of football for the Browns.
